I'm a science writer with a bachelor's degree in astrophysics and a great deal of curiosity about other fields. I also blog on the mind and its mysteries at the Thinking Meat Project. I've been fascinated by words ever since I got my first library card at age four. My younger son is a botanist who has graciously shared with me some of the language of his field. Over the past five years, I've edited hundreds of scientific papers in the physical sciences and technology, and this has sharpened my interest in the lingo of the various sciences. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn. I'm hoping that this blog will give me the chance to share some of what I've already learned about the language of science and to expand my knowledge as I reach out into new areas and write up what I find.
I may as well take this opportunity to thank my sons, Greg and Patrick. Greg has listened to interminable talk about "the new blog," and Patrick has contributed ideas for content. Thanks, guys; I appreciate it.
